What the ASP is

The Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is a credential awarded by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), a credentialing body in the United States. A candidate earns it by meeting BCSP's education and experience requirements and passing the ASP examination. The examination tests whether a safety practitioner can apply core safety knowledge: calculations, safety programs, ergonomics, fire protection, emergency response, industrial hygiene, environmental management, training and legal matters.

Many practitioners take the ASP as a step towards the Certified Safety Professional (CSP). BCSP has accepted the ASP as one of the credentials that can make a candidate eligible to sit the CSP examination. Eligibility rules change from time to time, so check the current requirements with BCSP before you plan your route. The CSP-level material is covered in the course BCSP CSP Exam Preparation, and construction-specific practice for the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) credential is in the course BCSP CHST Exam Preparation.

What this course does

  • It follows the domains of BCSP's current published ASP examination blueprint, version ASP11, and sizes its modules roughly in proportion to the domain weights.
  • It teaches each domain at exam depth: the formulas, the program elements and the judgement calls a question is likely to test.
  • Where another course on this site teaches a topic in full, a lesson recaps it for the exam and names that course.
  • Every practice question is written for this course. None is a real examination item, and none is "recalled" from an examination.

What it does not do

It does not replace the reference material BCSP lists for candidates, and it does not promise a result. Nobody can honestly promise you a pass. What a structured course can do is make sure you have met every domain, practised every common calculation, and learned to read a question carefully.
