What you will be able to do
In this course you will learn to take part in an internal audit of a management system, such as a quality, safety or environmental system. By the end, you should be able to help plan an audit, gather evidence, write a clear finding, and check that problems are fixed. You do not need any audit experience to start.
The course moves step by step: first the basic words and ideas, then why audits exist, then how to plan and carry out an audit, then how to report and follow up, then practice with realistic audits, and finally how a full year of audits is managed.
The people in an audit
Example: a first audit
Amina works in customer service at a packaging company. She has been asked to join the internal audit team. Her first audit is of the warehouse. The lead auditor, from the finance team, writes the plan. Amina helps check delivery records. The warehouse supervisor acts as guide. The quality manager, who is the audit programme manager, receives the report.
Amina does not audit customer service, because that is her own work. This keeps the audit independent.
