A record people can rely on

Minutes are the written record of a meeting. They say who was there, what was decided, and who will do what by when. They are not a story of the conversation. A good set of minutes lets someone who was not present understand the outcome in a few minutes.

This course covers the whole job of meeting support: preparing, listening, writing, approving and following up. It starts with the basics and builds step by step.

Three jobs minutes do

People forget what was agreed. Minutes remind them, so the same discussion does not happen again next month.

Two examples

Example 1. A team agreed to change the date of a monthly report. Nobody wrote it down. Two weeks later, half the team used the old date and half used the new one. A single line in the minutes would have prevented the confusion.

Example 2. A committee approved a new supplier. A year later, an auditor asked who approved it and why. The minutes showed the date, the paper considered, the decision and the reason. The question was answered in five minutes.
