The engine room of the office
Office administration keeps an organisation running day to day. Administrators answer enquiries, organise meetings, keep records, order supplies, welcome visitors and help keep the workplace safe. When the work is done well, nobody notices. When it fails, everyone notices.
This course covers the role step by step: how to work, how to communicate, how to run systems and records, and how to support the wider organisation.
Five areas of office administration
Two examples
Example 1. A manager asks for a room for a client meeting. A good administrator books the room, checks the screen works, arranges water, tells reception the client's name, and adds the visit to the visitor list. One request touched communication, organisation, resources and the workplace.
Example 2. An administrator forgot to tell reception about a visitor. The client waited twenty minutes in the lobby while staff tried to find out who she was meeting. A small gap in one area affected the organisation's image.
