What a Green Belt does
Six Sigma is a data-driven method for reducing variation and defects in a process. Projects follow five phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC). A Green Belt is a person who works on improvement projects, often part-time, beside their normal job. A Green Belt may lead a small project or support a larger one led by a Black Belt.
The ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) exam tests whether a candidate understands the tools and ideas of DMAIC well enough to apply them. Most questions ask you to choose the right tool, read a result, or calculate a value — not just to define a word. That is why this course is written at intermediate level: every lesson ends with practice in applying the idea.
The Body of Knowledge
ASQ publishes a Body of Knowledge (BoK) for each certification. It lists the topics the exam can test and the number of questions for each section. This course follows the BoK revision that ASQ introduced in 2022, which has six sections. ASQ can revise a BoK, so always download the current version from ASQ and check which version applies to your exam date.
The BoK also gives each topic a cognitive level, such as understand, apply or analyze. Read these levels carefully. A topic at apply or analyze level usually means you will meet a calculation or a scenario, not a definition.
The six BoK sections and where this course covers them
Six Sigma and the Organization (11 questions in the 2022 BoK): value of Six Sigma, organizational goals and metrics, lean principles, Design for Six Sigma (whose methods include basic failure mode and effects analysis, FMEA). Covered in Module 1, with FMEA taught in full in Module 5.

Modules 3 and 4. Practise every calculation by hand and with a calculator until it is quick. - 3
Weeks 6–7
