- Rate likelihood and consequence on a 5×5 risk matrix and read inherent versus residual risk
- Apply the hierarchy of controls, starting at elimination, and justify remaining risk as ALARP
- Write a Job Safety Analysis: break a task into steps, identify the hazards at each step and set controls for each step
- Recognise when conditions have changed enough to stop the job and reassess
- Lead risk-assessment teams and keep assessments alive through review and management of change
