- Explain why separation is the heart of production processing and what every downstream system inherits from it.
- Describe how density difference, residence time and coalescence govern separator performance.
- Distinguish two-phase and three-phase separators, and vertical and horizontal vessels, and say which duty each suits.
- Identify the main separator internals — inlet devices, weirs, vortex breakers and demisters — and explain what each contributes.
- Apply level, pressure and interface control, and manage emulsions through demulsifier dosing and bottle testing.
- Diagnose common upsets — foaming, slugging, liquid carryover and gas blow-by — and choose a sound first response.
