- Explain what makes a space confined and why confined spaces cause multiple fatalities, including among would-be rescuers
- Describe the atmospheric hazards of confined spaces and the typical entry limits for oxygen, flammable gas and toxic gases
- Apply the correct gas-testing sequence (oxygen, then flammables, then toxics) and maintain continuous monitoring during entry
- Prepare a space for entry through isolation, draining, purging, ventilation and permit controls
- Describe the duties of the entrant, standby person, entry supervisor and rescue team
- Verify that a workable rescue plan and equipment are in place before any entry begins
