What you'll learn
- Explain why a suspended load is stored energy and apply the never-under-a-suspended-load rule and exclusion zones
- Describe the roles in a lifting team — appointed person, lifting supervisor, crane operator, rigger/slinger and signaller — and the one-signaller rule
- Categorise lifts as routine or non-routine/critical and state what a documented lift plan must cover
- Select and inspect rigging gear using SWL/WLL, colour-coding and sling-angle derating, and reject damaged gear
- Carry out pre-lift checks in the correct sequence, including ground conditions, outrigger set-up, wind limits and dropped-object checks on the load
- Plan, brief and supervise a non-routine lift, and stop and re-plan when conditions deviate from the plan
