What you'll learn

  • Recognise the nine GHS pictograms and state the hazard class each one represents.
  • Explain how signal words, H-statements and P-statements communicate hazard on a chemical label.
  • Locate and apply the Safety Data Sheet sections field crews use most: hazards (2), first aid (4), accidental release (6) and exposure controls/PPE (8).
  • Apply storage segregation rules for oxidisers, flammables, acids and bases, and label secondary containers correctly when decanting.
  • Select chemical-specific controls and PPE using the hierarchy of controls, and respond safely to a small spill.
